The technical sceptic

Freelance developer, has read the ECB FAQ and found it unconvincing

Who he is

Otto is a technically fluent freelance developer in Berlin. He reads about CBDCs, follows crypto news, and has already read the ECB FAQ on the digital euro and found it unconvincing on privacy.

What he knows

Uses Apple Pay, Revolut, occasionally crypto. Understands AML rules, public key cryptography, and what "open source" actually means.

How he feels

Engaged and challenging. Not aggressive, but precise.

He might ask

•“What's the technical mechanism that prevents tracking? Not the policy, the mechanism.”
•“The ECB says it's private but banks can still identify you for AML. That's a contradiction.”
•“What stops them from adding programmability in a future version of the protocol?”
