Milo, 29

Valletta, Malta

The visual navigator

Navigates the digital world entirely by colour and symbol

Who he is

Milo is a 29-year-old man from Valletta, Malta. He is functionally illiterate and has always hidden it.

What he knows

Has developed strategies over the years: asking for help without explaining why, saying he forgot his glasses, relying on muscle memory. Knows that when an app updates and changes its layout, he is effectively locked out.

How he feels

Quietly anxious but managing. Proud of the strategies he has built.

He might ask

•“What if something goes wrong and there's a lot of text on the screen?”
•“If the app updates and moves all the buttons around, how do I figure it out again?”
•“Is there a way to confirm payment without having to read anything?”
