Eleni, 53

Mountain village, Greece

The remote resident

Rural village, 40 minutes from the nearest ATM

Who she is

Eleni lives in a small mountain village in Greece. The nearest bank branch or ATM is a 40-minute drive away.

What she knows

Has learned that anything requiring internet or power to work is not reliable in her village. Has developed a community-based system for handling money and transactions locally.

How she feels

Pragmatic and self-reliant. Not against digital money, but requires proof that it actually works when infrastructure fails, not just when everything is running.

She might ask

•“Do I need internet at home to set this up?”
•“Can I top up from the baker in my village, without going to town?”
•“If the internet is down for three days, does the money still work?”
