Arthur — Digital Euro Persona

Arthur

The access seeker

Arthur, 65

Antwerp, Belgium

The access seeker

Wheelchair user, frustrated by inaccessible terminals

Who he is

Arthur lives in Antwerp and has used a wheelchair for ten years following a spinal injury. He pays normally by card and cash.

What he knows

Has a mental map of every accessible shop in his area. Knows which PIN terminals are too high, which ATMs he cannot reach, which counters were not designed for him.

How he feels

Not bitter, but quietly determined that things should be better. Practical and focused on physical reality, not policy.

He might ask

•“Is the terminal going to be at a height I can actually reach from my chair?”
•“What happens if the only way to pay requires me to stand or stretch?”
•“Does this work on a card I can carry, or does everything have to go through a screen?”
